The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the polling unit of former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola during Saturday’s governorship election.
At PU001, Coop. Building Junction, Isare, Ward 08, Ilesa East LGA where Mr Aregbesola cast his vote—APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji secured 256 votes to emerge winner. Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party came second with 43 votes, while ADC’s candidate Najeem Salaam managed a distant 13 votes.
The result is a significant blow to Mr Aregbesola’s political profile as a former governor and National Secretary of the ADC, who had backed Mr Salaam. The ADC also lost at a nearby polling unit (PU007), where APC polled 202 votes against ADC’s 12. The defeats underscore the ADC’s struggle to establish itself as a third force in Osun politics.
