Former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately, in a blistering exit letter that pulls no punches.
In a resignation letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to his Ward 4 chairman in Brass LGA, Sylva announced his departure after consultations with family, close associates, and political allies. The former governor, who positioned himself as a founding stalwart of the party, lamented that the APC has completely abandoned the core principles it was built upon.
Sylva made it crystal clear that he cannot stomach a party whose leadership operates on the dangerous mantra that “all is fair in politics.” He insisted that political engagement must be anchored in basic decency and morality standards he claims the APC has consistently discarded in practice.
Turning his guns on the broader APC-led Federal Government, Sylva didn’t hold back, declaring that the administration has not only failed the vast majority of Nigerians but has shown no serious commitment or even potential for a turnaround. He described the party as a “floundering ship” and asserted that staying aboard was no longer an option.
However, Sylva’s sharpest dart was aimed at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In a provocative move, he copied the anti-graft agency on his resignation letter and accused it of devolving into a partisan weapon, operating more as an “organ of the APC” than a neutral state institution.
Despite acknowledging that his resignation could provoke a “redoubled witch-hunt” against him and his associates, Sylva remained defiant, stating he is fully prepared to face the consequences. He expressed optimism that Nigerians are ready to break free from the APC’s “stranglehold” and will vote for a new political direction in the upcoming elections.
Copies of the fiery letter were also forwarded to the APC National Chairman and the party’s Bayelsa State Chairman.
