The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared an end to temporary fixes on the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road as the Federal Government flagged off its dualisation in Oyo State on August 24, 2026.
Speaking at the ceremony, Umahi said the 56.5km project marks a decisive shift toward durable infrastructure under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. “Today marks the end of an era of temporary fixes on this vital corridor. We are building roads that will outlive generations.”
The Minister described the project as a deliberate economic intervention that will unlock agricultural and commercial potential across the Lagos-Ogun-Oyo axis, reduce travel time, and address security challenges like kidnapping that thrived on deteriorated sections.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, representing President Tinubu, described the project as a vital economic connection between sister states. The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, welcomed the project, noting the hardship farmers and traders had endured on the route.
Umahi praised contractor JRB Construction Limited as the best indigenous firm, highlighting the scale of earthworks already underway with fillings up to 40 feet.
The Minister announced he would proceed to the Benin–Agbor–Asaba Road to resolve difficulties caused by a concessionaire who removed over 30km of asphalt and abandoned the site. The Minister of State for Works will also visit the Ifaki–Kabba Road in Ekiti and Kogi states.
Umahi commended President Tinubu for approving critical road projects nationwide, arguing that the scale of construction is unprecedented. “Every state is a construction site. There is no region that we say we are shortchanged.”
The ceremony concluded with the official ground-breaking performed by Governor Abiodun.
