ABUJA, Nigeria – A Nigerian lawyer has raised serious questions about the possible forgery of a resignation letter linked to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), triggering fresh crisis for the opposition party.
According to reports monitored by Podium Reporters, the letter from the former National Legal Adviser of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) was dated December 4, 2025, and received on December 5, 2025. However, it carries a Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal that remains valid until March 2027.
The lawyer explained that NBA seals are issued every year. A seal valid until March 2027 would normally be produced and issued from January 2026. He said it could not have been used on a document created in December 2025.
This observation, he noted, points to possible backdating or forgery. Such an action could result in professional misconduct charges against the lawyer involved before the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee.
The concerns come after the Nigeria Democratic Congress stated that its National Legal Adviser resigned from the APM last year. The party said there are no issues with membership records or legal matters. It added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) only forgot to update the APM’s information on its website.
The NDC released copies of the resignation letters as proof. One letter was sent to the National Chairman of the APM. Another was addressed to a ward chairman in Kogi State. Both were signed by Reuben Egwuaba, Esq.
The lawyer has called on the Nigerian Bar Association and its president, Afam Osigwe, to investigate the matter.
The issue has generated wide discussions on social media. Some people are asking for quick clarification from the NDC, while others view it as a sign of early challenges for the opposition party.
As of the time of this report, neither the APM nor the NDC has given further response to the questions about the seal date.
