The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Wednesday stormed the secretariat of the Labour Party to protest the party’s national convention planned for end of this month.
The Joe Ajaero-led NLC also demanded for the sack of the embattled Labour Party Chairman, Julius Abure over what it described as neglect of the NLC leadership and other critical stakeholders of the Labour Party in the planning of the Labour Party March 27th national convention slated to hold in Umuahia.
Last week it emerged that Julius Abure and his faction were planning to hold a “secret national convention” without involving major stakeholders of the party and the NLC.
The NLC leadership through the NLC Political Commission wrote a letter frowning at the clandestine move by Julius Abure and ultimately called for his resignation. NLC described Abure’s actions as “a breach of trust and irresponsible use of power.”
The planned convention has pitched Abure against the NLC and the House of Representatives caucus with the NLC accusing Abure of planning to destroy what the Labour Party stands for.
Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party national leader has kept mum in the face of the confrontation between the NLC leadership and the Labour Party NWC leading many to suspect he may be supporting Joe Ajaero-led NLC to kick out Abure as national chairman of the Labour Party.
