Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, met with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, amid signs that tensions in Rivers State may be easing.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. A report by The Nation, a Nigerian newspaper, said the talks included other key political leaders from Rivers State, an oil-producing state in southern Nigeria’s Niger Delta region.
The discussions were not made public. However, the intervention has drawn attention because the dispute in Rivers State has involved influential political actors and has shaped political alignments in the state.
The Nation also reported that after the talks, Governor Fubara and Minister Wike went to Wike’s home in Guzape, a district in Abuja.
The report added that Fubara was said to have appealed to Wike and pledged to avoid further disrespect, a claim that, if confirmed, could point to progress toward reconciliation between the two major figures.
Observers are now watching for any official statement or follow-up meetings that could clarify what the presidency expects next and whether the Rivers political crisis will cool down in the coming days.
