The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed its strong confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by approving a waiver of screening requirements ahead of the party’s upcoming primary elections.
At its 188th meeting held in Abuja, the NWC resolved to grant the waiver in line with its constitutional mandate, effectively deeming President Tinubu as duly screened and eligible to participate in the primaries.
The decision reflects both procedural continuity and the party’s recognition of the President’s leadership.
Citing its powers under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC Constitution, the NWC emphasized that such waivers are permissible in special circumstances and are exercised in the best interest of the party.
In this case, the committee noted that President Bola Tinubu had already undergone comprehensive screening prior to the 2022 presidential primaries, making any repeat process unnecessary.
The committee further highlighted the President’s broad-based support across the party.
This includes endorsements and votes of confidence from key stakeholders such as the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs, notably expressed during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025.
Describing President Tinubu as both the incumbent leader of the nation and the party, the NWC underscored that the waiver aligns with the prevailing consensus within the APC and reinforces unity ahead of the primaries.
The move demonstrated a consolidation of support within the party as it prepares for the next electoral cycle, with the leadership positioning itself for continuity and stability under President Tinubu’s stewardship.
