The Nigeria Police have slammed the action of a policewoman who was captured carrying the handbag of Titi Abubakar, the wife of Peoples Presidential Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The orderly, who is yet to be identified, was seen in a series of photos shared from the unveiling of a women-based initiative in Abuja carrying a handbag reportedly belonging to Mrs. Abubakar while standing behind her whilst she was making a speech.
Reactions from seeing such degradation of the Nigerian Police on the part of the Atiku campaign had erupted the social media space, with many calling out the action as a disrespect from the wife of a presidential candidate to the Nigeria Police with her husband in attendance at the event.
The Nigeria Police, via its spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi have condemned the action, stressing that appropriate sanctions would be meted out.
According to the Police, such action is an absurdity and cannot be accepted in the system.
“This is not acceptable. We have commenced necessary action on this. We will fish her out and get across to the principal.” Adejobi said in a series of tweets.
“To us in the police, it’s an absurdity and should not be allowed to continue.
“To you, it might not be serious but to us, it’s serious for many reasons some of which are known to you as well. We don’t need any sentiment if at all we are serious about reform.
“My brother, this is bad for an orderly to carry bag for her madam, more so that the madam is not a service(sic) police officer. How does she defend her if there is any attack on her?”
