Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi has been slammed for his fraternity with controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi.
Obi, on Monday, posted pictures of him and his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed paying a courtesy visit to the cleric at his residence in Kaduna state.
The former Anamabra state governor has since come under fire from Nigerians who questioned his motive at visiting a man who is widely acclaimed to be a proponent of bandits
Gumi, a medical doctor and retired military officer, is the current ‘Mufti’ and ‘Mufassir’ at the Kaduna Sultan Bello Central mosque.
In times past, the cleric has been accused of ‘sympathising’ with bandits, who have brought misery on families and communities through their violent onslaught, kidnappings for outrageous ransom and gruesome killings.
Reacting to Obi’s visit to such a personality, many have accused Obi of being in support of terrorism in the country.
@danielregha wrote, “Peter Obi says he’s f!ghting for a new Nigeria, but he keeps building alliances with the enem!es. Sheikh Gumi has many times defended bandits on live TV, he’s a well-known terrorist sympathizer & Nigerians criticize the govt for staying silent. Anyone defending this now is s!ck.”
It will be recalled that this visit comes after Obi also recently was upbraided for including General John Enenche in his campaign council.
