Popular social media investigative journalist, David Hundeyin has incurred the wrath of Nigerians on social media after he claimed in his recently released documentary that Late Chief M.K.O Abiola was connected to drug dealings, citing that as the reason the June 12, 1993 election was annulled.
Hundeyin claimed that Ibrahim Babaginda, who was the Head of State at the time and expected to hand over to the democratically elected Abiola but didn’t, was the hero of the election.
Hundeyin claimed to have contacted a professor who told him that the US prevailed on Babaginda to prevent the emergence of Abiola as president, citing his alleged drug dealings.
He said, “Only Professor Gary K Busch, a notable African political risk analyst and one-time professor of African Studies at University of Huwaei agreed to say his piece. His lengthy comment went as follows: the Nigeria military on the council were adamant that the Babaginda government should never allow Abiola to run for office and told President Babaginda so during the aborted run-off primaries before the election.
“The basis for their concern about Abiola was the information and documentation being circulated in Washington, London and Lagos of Abiola’s alleged ties to the drug business.
“The US in particular had expressed a strong opposition to IBB about the candidacy of Abiola as president not because of his politics or allegations of corruption but rather for the evidence they felt was correct about Abiola’s drug.
“This issue was raised on three occasions before the military council and Babaginda was warned, he refused to take a decision until it was almost too late. When he finally intervened and stopped the election, he precipitated the crisis of June 12. His friends in the military supported him but felt let down by IBB’s lack of decisiveness.”
These blatant allegations without proof have since been met with stiff resistance from Nigerians on social media who find it insulting for Hundeyin to link Abiola to drug dealings, and claim that was the reason the June 12 election was annulled.
They protested his claims that IBB was the hero of the election following his annulment of it, asserting that Abiola will forever remain a political legend in the country.
They warned Hundeyin to avoid including Abiola in his investigative pieces without substantiatable proofs only meant to titillate his social media cohorts.

@cappadiszle: MKO Abiola was murdered in prison. He won d freest election in Nigeria’s history & was denied his mandate by IBB. The Yoruba almost left Nigeria because of it. We revere him as a hero of democracy but today his name is being smeared in the name of politics. This is unacceptable!
@SenatorHenrii: David Hundeyin is now the new and only verifiable evidence that Tinubu was a Drug Baron.
That is who all Obidients are quoting now.
And the only reference they will quote that ‘MKO Abiola’ was a drug baron too.
This is gone too far.
@woye1
@momopee2: They called IBB hero of June 12. Called MKO Abiola a drug dealer. This is the time for Kola Abiola to join forces with Asiwaju, the only man of true MKO legacy standing. Let them know!
@rashydonkoncept: Since there are no concrete evidence or factual prove. Please let’s respect the Dead. Let’s respect MKO Abiola. He doesn’t deserve this. You can hate Tinubu, I don’t care but please don’t include Abiola. Don’t be unfortunate.
@midemide1: David Hundeyin just watered down d drug angle on Tinubu by including d MKO Abiola angle without solid evidence beyond “hearsay”.
You left IBB, Mariam, Gloria Okon, d ’83 coup, d Dele Giwa angle, all which had more traction . . . giving the Tinubu’s urchins mouth to talk
@duchessmabboud: All of you outsourced your thinking to someone seeking asylum?!?! Like, the reason why MKO Abiola et al are drug dealers is because David Hundeyin said so? Blood of Habakkuk😭😭.
@Zee_Osman80: That fake “investigative” wanna-be journalist called David Hundeyin or Hyundai has now made Ibrahim Babangida a hero and MKO Abiola a villain. What a time to be alive. Twitter is full of gullible dundees and mumus 🤣
