It was a horrible day for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Abeokuta, the state capital as the party after its presidential rally had its vehicles attacked by residents in what was a demonstration of rejection of the party in the state.
On Wednesday, the PDP took its presidential campaign train to Abeokuta with presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his wife, Titi Abubakar, National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke among other dignitaries in attendance.
During the presidential rally, Ayu had hinted on the difficulty they faced in getting a venue to hold their presidential rally in Abeokuta in what was yet another instance that showed how resistant the state is to the party.
In a video circulating online, it was claimed that the PDP, in understanding of their unpopularity in the state, resorted to renting people from different local government, particularly market women, and had them transported to the venue to front as PDP supporters.
The recent event adds to the list of rejections the party has encountered in the process of their presidential campaign with notable ones in Plateau, Kogi and Lagos.
