Youths in Edo have taken to the street to express disapproval and call out their governor, Godwin Obaseki for throwing his weight behind the policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria to implement the strict usage of the new Naira notes despite the ruling of the Supreme Court.
On Wednesday, thousands of residents in Benin trooped out to protest against Governor Obaseki for the suit the State Government filed in Abuja in support of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN).
The protesters, it was gathered, were left bemused over the rationale behind the State Government’s support for the CBN despite the hardships in the State over the scarcity of the new naira notes and the refusal of banks to accept the old notes.
In a series of videos seen online, angry residents, who could not access their monies in commercial banks, took to the streets, demanding an answer from Governor Obaseki.
Obaseki and his Bayelsa counterparts, Douye Diri are the two latest Governors who are from the PDP to have come under fire for their blatant support of the draconian policy from the CBN.
Recall that political bigwigs and experts have attributed the policy to be anti-government and one in place from the opposition party to scuttle the coming election to prevent victory for the ruling party, APC.
