President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to halt visa processing for government officials traveling to the United Nations General Assembly in New York unless they can prove direct participation in official UNGA activities.
This move is part of President Tinubu’s efforts to reduce the country’s cost of governance, reported NTA.
All ministries, departments, and agencies are now required to strictly limit the number of aides and associated staff joining the UNGA delegation.
Any excesses or anomalies will be addressed during the final verification process, warned the President.
He emphasized that government officials and expenditures should reflect the prudence and sacrifice being made by Nigerians across the nation.
During the UNGA, President Tinubu is set to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden, which is expected to have significant implications for regional cooperation and shared interests.
The meeting, arranged by U.S. presidential envoy Molly Phee and assistant secretary of state for African affairs, aims to address critical regional issues, including the recent power shift in Niger.
