The turmoil in Labour Party has continued to rage on following the suspension Nigerian actress-turned politician, Hilda Dokubo as a member of the Labour Party at her ward in Asari Toru local government area (LGA) of Rivers state.
Hilda Dokubo, who until her suspension was the Labour Party’s chairperson in Rivers State, was suspended on Thursday after her ward executive committee held an emergency meeting where she was accused of various offences ranging from financial misconduct, abuse of office, as well as breach of party regulations.
The suspension of the Labour Party Rivers State Chairperson was contained in a letter addressed to the Local Government Chairman of the party in Asari Toru LGA, which was signed by Dokubo’s Ward Chairman, Ajalamonia Ibama; the Secretary, Lole Amacheer; the Treasurer, Emmanuel Ibamathe; the Woman Leader, Saki Dieypiriye; and the party’s publicity secretary in the ward, Osaki Dokubo.
According to the Ward Executives, the decision to suspend the LP Rivers Chairperson, Hilda Dokubo was made following a thorough investigation into the allegations against the popular actress. The national leadership of the party led by Julius Abure has not commented on the purported suspension of its Rivers Chapter Chairperson.
It was LP national chairman, Julius Abure who in March 2023 announced the appointment of Hilda Dokubo as the Chairperson of a three-member steering committee in Rivers State to pilot the affairs of the party in the state following the dissolution of previous state working committee of the party in Rivers State led by Dienye Pepple.
Philip Loveday was made secretary of the Steering Committee at the time while Gogo Wellington was appointed as the Publicity Secretary. According to Abure then, the Dienye Pepple executive got dissolved following allegations of anti-party activities when Mr. Dienye Pepple hosted a press release declaring support for Mr. Siminalaye Fubara, the then PDP governorship candidate in Rivers State.
It is unclear at this moment if the latest suspension of Hilda Dokubo’s by her ward excos would stand.
