As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Eid-El-Kabir, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intensified its security measures by deploying more than 28,000 operatives across the country. This large-scale deployment is intended to maintain peace and protect citizens throughout the holiday period.
The directive was issued by the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Audi, who mobilized operatives from various specialized units, including the Intelligence Directorate, Special Female Squad, Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Quick Response Tactical Team, Counter Terrorism Unit, Operations Department, and Special Weapon and Tactics team.
In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale, Dr. Audi explained that the deployment is part of the corps’ ongoing commitment to safeguarding critical national infrastructure and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
He cautioned against the increased risk of criminal activities during festive periods, emphasizing the need for vigilance and proactive security measures. “We are aware that the festive period often provides opportunities for criminal elements to operate,” he said.
During a strategic meeting with senior NSCDC officials, including state commandants and heads of formations, Dr. Audi highlighted the importance of intelligence-led operations. He urged operatives to enhance community engagement to gather credible information, noting that “no single agency has a monopoly on tackling insecurity.”
The Commandant General also instructed the 36 state commands and the Federal Capital Territory Command to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies and local communities. This cooperation is crucial for tackling security threats such as insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, vandalism, illegal bunkering, and clashes between farmers and herders.
“We also call on members of the public to support this course of action so that together we can attain the goal of effective security coverage across board,” he added.
Furthermore, Dr. Audi encouraged private security firms to contribute by sharing timely intelligence and reinforcing their information networks, particularly during emergencies, to enhance overall security effectiveness.
