Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s decision to abolish the fuel subsidy, describing it as a “courageous” move that was overdue. During a courtesy visit by Senators Orji Uzor Kalu and Chris Adighije, Otti stressed the importance of supporting Tinubu’s economic reforms.
Otti highlighted his longstanding advocacy for subsidy removal, referencing his published opinions during the global pandemic. “It requires somebody with courage to remove that subsidy, and I am in support of it,” he said, acknowledging the pain of economic corrections after years of mismanagement.
He urged citizens and politicians alike to focus on immediate governance rather than speculating about the 2027 elections, emphasizing the unpredictability of the future. Otti credited his administration’s infrastructural focus for renewed economic activity in Aba, with businesses booming and private citizens contributing generously to state projects.
Senator Kalu praised Otti’s achievements, particularly in road rehabilitation, and reaffirmed his support for the governor regardless of political contests. He encouraged Otti to maintain a strong partnership with Tinubu, while Senator Adighije underscored the importance of collective progress over partisanship, lauding both leaders for their efforts.
