President Bola Tinubu has responded to the recent massacre in Yelewata community, Guma LGA, by demanding urgent action from security agencies to arrest those responsible for the deaths of over 100 residents.
Speaking during a town hall meeting with Benue political leaders, Tinubu addressed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa: “Christopher… We need to get our ears to the ground. Let’s get those criminals. Let’s get them out.”
The President’s visit included a compassionate stop at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, where he consoled survivors of the violent attack.
In a pointed conversation with Governor Hyacinth Alia, Tinubu observed, “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed…Are you just realising that?” underscoring the political obstacles hindering peace.
Calling for collective action, the President said, “We cannot do without another. I will want us to create a leadership committee now to meet in Abuja to fashion out a strategy for lasting peace. And I am ready to invest in that peace.”
The visit, attended by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume and Governor Alia, signals the federal government’s renewed focus on addressing the persistent insecurity in Benue State.
