The Nasarawa State Government has confirmed that it is ready to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Lafia for the commissioning of several multi-billion naira projects spearheaded by Governor Abdullahi Sule. The announcement was made by Dr. Tanko Ibrahim, Commissioner for Information and Culture, during a media briefing on Tuesday.
According to Dr. Ibrahim, President Tinubu will arrive at Usman Danfodio Airport and immediately proceed to commission the under/overhead bridge in Lafia, a key infrastructure development aimed at improving urban mobility.
“The president will be received at the Usman Danfodio Airport in Lafia and will proceed to commission the under/overhead Lafia bridge. After which, the president will pay homage to the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage, rtd, at his palace,” he said.
The president’s itinerary also includes the launch of newly acquired tractors to boost agricultural mechanization, the commissioning of the Shendam dual carriageway to improve road transport, and the unveiling of a state-of-the-art secretariat complex along Shendam Road.
The visit will conclude with a town hall meeting at the Aliyu Akwe Doma Banquet Hall within the Government House, providing a platform for dialogue with local stakeholders.
Dr. Ibrahim highlighted that all projects were financed entirely by the state government without external borrowing, reflecting prudent fiscal management under Governor Sule.
In preparation for the visit, the Nasarawa State Police Command has announced traffic restrictions and diversions in Lafia to ensure security. Police spokesperson Rahman Nansel said the restrictions will be in effect from 6:00 pm on June 24 until 6:00 am on June 25.
“Vehicles coming into Lafia from the Akwanga axis would be diverted at Mechanic Village, Azuba, to pass through the bypass, Akurba, Mararaba Akunza, and connect to the Makurdi Road,” he explained. Motorists from the Makurdi route will also face rerouting.
The police assured that Commissioner Shetima Jauro-Mohammed has deployed sufficient personnel to secure all routes and called on the public to cooperate with security agencies.
