A dramatic abduction in Awka, Anambra State, has prompted a swift response from the state’s police command, who are now actively pursuing the gunmen responsible for kidnapping a local resident.
The incident unfolded early Friday morning, when three armed men in a stainless-coloured Toyota Highlander without license plates ambushed the victim near his home. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the assailants fired weapons indiscriminately before seizing their target.
A video capturing the event has gone viral, offering critical insight into the suspects’ actions and vehicle. Police have confirmed that the footage is central to their ongoing investigation.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, issued a statement on Saturday, assuring the public that all measures are being taken to rescue the victim. He said, “The Anambra State Police Command will leverage on the viral video of the criminal operations of three armed men who operated in a stainless colored Highlander without a plate number, shot indiscriminately and abducted an unsuspecting victim in the early hours of June 27, 2025 at Awka for investigations.”
Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu has lauded the individual who recorded the video, emphasizing that such acts of bravery are crucial in supporting law enforcement. “The CP noted that such courageous act demonstrates the impact of community involvement in supporting Law Enforcement efforts,” Ikenga added.
