Old budget documents from Peter Obi’s time as governor of Anambra State have resurfaced online, drawing public attention to how funds were used during his administration.
According to the 2012 state budget, the government under Obi spent about ₦430 million on travels, ₦250 million on hospitality, ₦200 million on vehicle maintenance, and ₦400 million on miscellaneous expenses. In the same document, allocations for staff training and grants were ₦10 million and ₦5 million respectively.
The figures, now circulating on social media, have sparked discussions among Nigerians who say the numbers appear inconsistent with Obi’s long-standing reputation for financial discipline and simplicity. Some users questioned whether the spending pattern reflected the same ideals of prudence and accountability that he is widely known for.
Many have also noted that these details have revived debates about Obi’s record in office and what it means for his political image today.
