The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has raised an alarm over an alleged plot by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to discredit its presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 24, 2026, and signed by the council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, the APC claimed that the former Vice President and the ADC had perfected plans to spread misinformation and manipulate public opinion through fake news operations, AI-generated content, deepfake videos, and counterfeit documents.
The statement alleged that the plot was aimed at discrediting the APC rally, President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and leaders of the party.
According to the APC, the alleged tactics had already been deployed in the last 24 hours, beginning with the circulation of a picture showing a security vehicle on routine patrol stationed near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna metropolis.
The party accused Atiku and the ADC propaganda machinery of twisting the narrative to claim that security agents were deployed to protect the billboards, and subsequently planting the story in a national newspaper known for its anti-government stance.
“Immediately after the newspaper published the fake, distorted story, Atiku Abubakar, in a coordinated manner, latched onto it and shared it on his official social media handles to generate traffic and trends,” the statement read.
The APC further alleged that the former Vice President and ADC agents released another fake letter online, purportedly written by Governor Uba Sani and addressed to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, regarding the release of N2.3 trillion by the Kaduna State Government to host the rally.
Describing the claim as baseless, the party said the figure defies logic, noting that the N2.3 trillion mentioned is more than Kaduna State’s annual budget for three years combined.
“For context, the combined Kaduna State budgets for 2024 (N458.271 billion), 2025 (N790.439 billion), and 2026 (N985.9 billion) are still less than N2.3 trillion,” the statement said.
The APC also warned that the ADC and Atiku’s supporters had perfected plans to circulate old, doctored, and deepfake videos as the rally gets underway to show purported resentment by the people.
The party urged the general public to be vigilant and reject what it described as the machinations of the opposition, stating that Atiku Abubakar and the ADC are incapable of winning any election and would resort to any means to stay afloat in their desperate bid to grab power.
