The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the successful execution of a joint counterterrorism operation conducted by the Nigerian Armed Forces in collaboration with the Armed Forces of the United States.
The operation, carried out overnight in the Lake Chad Basin, resulted in a major setback for the Islamic State (IS) terrorist network operating within the region.
According to preliminary assessments, the operation led to the elimination of a high-profile Islamic State leader identified as Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok.
Several of his close associates and lieutenants were also reportedly neutralized during a coordinated strike on his compound in the Lake Chad Basin area.
The operation was described as a daring and strategic mission that demonstrated the effectiveness of international military cooperation in combating terrorism and insurgency in West Africa.
