The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday attended the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally held at Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
The event brought together a large gathering of women from across the country and focused on empowerment, national development, and increased female participation in governance.
In her address, the First Lady emphasized the critical role of women in national development, noting that women constitute over 50 percent of Nigeria’s population and therefore hold significant influence in shaping the country’s future.
She highlighted the importance of empowering women to make informed decisions, stating that such empowerment would positively impact families, communities, and the nation at large.

She commended the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for implementing initiatives aimed at putting financial resources directly in the hands of women.
According to her, these efforts align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which seeks to ensure women are included in decision-making processes.
Reiterating the President’s stance from International Women’s Day, the First Lady acknowledged the longstanding contributions of Nigerian women to nation-building and stressed that the country’s progress is closely tied to their advancement.

She assured participants that the Women’s Charter presented at the rally would be delivered to the President and pursued to fruition.
The First Lady also called on women to continue their roles in nurturing and mentoring children, urging them to instill discipline, patriotism, and moral values in the younger generation to secure a better future for the nation.
In her remarks, Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim described the rally as the emergence of a coordinated national movement of women, anchored on the “Power of 10 Million Women” initiative.
She portrayed Nigerian women as resilient contributors to economic growth and community development across all regions of the country.
The Minister emphasized that the rally marked a transition from fragmented efforts to a unified movement aimed at strengthening women’s influence in governance and national affairs.
She noted that under President Tinubu’s leadership, policies affecting women and vulnerable groups are being reformed to reflect current realities and global standards.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of the Women’s Charter for National Development.
The Minister described the document as a strategic framework representing the collective aspirations of Nigerian women, calling for greater political inclusion, economic opportunities, improved child welfare, and stronger governance systems.
Also speaking at the event, Chioma Uzodimma and Noimot Salako-Oyedele provided an overview of the “Power of 10 Million Women” movement.
They described it as a structured effort to connect and mobilize women across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, transforming their contributions into coordinated national influence.
They noted that Nigerian women are already active contributors to development across sectors, but emphasized that the initiative seeks to bridge gaps in coordination and amplify their collective impact on governance and economic inclusion.
The event also featured the symbolic distribution of empowerment items by the First Lady. Items provided to beneficiaries included tricycles, power tillers, sewing machines, grinding machines, hair dryers, and freezers, aimed at supporting women’s economic activities.
The rally underscored the growing recognition of women as key drivers of national development and highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance their participation, representation, and economic empowerment in Nigeria.
