The administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reinforcing its commitment to protecting vulnerable Nigerians, with Vice President Kashim Shettima announcing a renewed, high-level push to strengthen humanitarian coordination and outcomes nationwide.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa while receiving a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), led by Ms. Doris El Doueihy, Vice President Shettima emphasized that the Tinubu administration is prioritizing strategic engagement with both local and international stakeholders to close gaps in humanitarian response.
He underscored that sustained collaboration with trusted global partners like the ICRC is central to delivering faster, more effective interventions, particularly in regions affected by conflict and displacement.

According to the Vice President, this proactive approach reflects the administration’s broader vision of a responsive and people-centered government.
In a major step forward, the Federal Government has welcomed the ICRC’s proposal to establish a national humanitarian response mechanism, an initiative that will enhance coordination, improve crisis management, and ensure better care for victims of armed conflict.
Shettima affirmed the government’s readiness to work closely with the ICRC to bring this framework to life.
Highlighting Nigeria’s security architecture, the Vice President reiterated that the nation’s armed forces remain among the most professional globally, consistently aligning their operations with international humanitarian standards under the leadership of President Tinubu.
Earlier, Ms. El Doueihy praised Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa, particularly its domestication of the Kampala Convention for the protection of internally displaced persons.
She described Nigeria as a benchmark for humanitarian governance and reaffirmed the ICRC’s commitment to supporting the country across key sectors such as healthcare, water access, and security training.
The meeting further reinforces Nigeria’s position under the Tinubu–Shettima administration as a dependable partner in global humanitarian efforts, committed to innovation, collaboration, and the welfare of its people.
Also present at the meeting was the President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adetayo Adeaga, alongside other key stakeholders.
